Media Release

 Feb 8, 2025

The Thunder Bay & District Injured Workers Support Group (TBDIWSG) are excited to celebrate the release of Meredith Act, a completely new act to replace the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.

We will be holding a media conference on:

 Monday February 10, 2025, at 10 AM

At the OPSEU building at 326 Memorial Avenue, Thunder Bay

Focus – the release of Meredith Act, to replace the Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.

“Not only have we been identifying the injustices and barriers for workers in the workers compensation system for over 40 years,” said Eugene Lefrancois, TBDIWSG President, “but have now developed draft legislation to reform the system that will put workers first.”

The Meredith Act, named after the founding father of workers compensation in Ontario, if enacted will ensure protection for workers and their families in case of injury or disease and will also promote prevention so we have safer and healthier workplaces.

We will be joined by the WSIB Critic from the Official Opposition. NDP member Lise Vaugeois, who is prepared to introduce the bill into the Ontario Legislature.

The Meredith Act will also hold the system publicly accountable with a new governance model and the requirement to collect information on how well the system serves workers and employers.
