From our friends Alec & David.
Hello everyone
Injured Workers’ Day is the main annual event focused on justice for injured and ill workers.
And this is a vital year for our workers’ compensation system. After years of massive rebates to employers and benefit cuts to injured workers, we have made some modest gains – in increase in the income replacement rate from 85% of net to 90%; and some recognition of the need to compensate older workers who would have worked well past age 65. However, this has come along with the elimination of lock in of loss of earnings benefits. We need to show the government that much more is needed, and that we don’t accept cuts.
Below are some resources to promote Injured Workers’ Day, plus the dates of events around the province.
I was there on June 1, 1983, when 3000 injured workers made a powerful statement at Queen’s Park and put our issues on the political agenda. We need to think big and be confident that we can raise the profile of justice for injured workers.
