New Bill Introduced in House
On May 7th, Jennifer French, an NDP MPP from Oshawa, introduced Bill 98 – Protecting People of Occupational Disease Act (2015). In a short statement after introducing the bill, Jennifer explained that the bill is fixing a legislative loophole that is preventing workers from obtaining the compensation they are entitled to. Workers Compensation: Ontario vs. Quebec
On Thursday, May 14th the Thunder Bay and District Injured Workers Support Group held a life feed of discussion comparing workers Compensation in Ontario to workers compensation in Quebec. TBDIWSG President Attends Retirees Meeting
Also on Thursday, May 14th TBDIWSG President, Greg Snider, was invited to talk at a meeting of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union Retirees from Northwestern Ontario. Greg shared with the OPSEU members the many activities that the TBDIWSG and the Ontario Network of Injure d Worker Support Groups, including the Platform for Change and Legal Defence Fund.
Speakers School Graduation
On Tuesday, May 19, The New Direction Speakers School held Graduation for four Graduating students. Each graduate did a three minute speech followed by feedback from one of the three judges. Injured Worker, Brain Walker, congratulated the students for their accomplishments on behalf of the Alumni. The ceremony was held at City Hall and Mayor Keith Hobbs participated in handing out the ceritificates. The next class should start in the fall.
