On January 15th Thunder Bay & District Injured Worker Support Group Board members Jan Pilley, Jules Tupker and Steve Mantis met with Thunder Bay/Atikokan MPP Bill Mauro. This meeting represented our second meeting with a Northern Ontario MPP as earlier this month Board members Greg Snider, Eugene Lefrancois and Steve Mantis met with Thunder Bay/Superior North MPP Michael Gravelle. The meeting with Bill Mauro went well with several topics being discussed including; Cost of Living Adjustment, reduction of benefits and Experience Rating. The group felt that Bill was prepared for the meeting and he seemed quite willing to listen to their concerns. Bill expressed his concern for our issues and asked some good question of our board members.
Bill was supportive of Michael Gravelle’s efforts to have Labour Minister Kevin Flynn come to Thunder Bay to meet with our group and in fact Bill stated that he would be calling the Minister as soon as the meeting ended.
This was a very positive meeting and although we must not forget, that a person injured at work today is worse off now than if she or he had been injured prior to the Liberals taking office; meetings like these may represent the beginning of positive changes.
I am certain that if we continue to be supportive, active and informative we will obtain the changes we want.
With Shared Strength we move forward
